OXYD Cycles and Walt Brown

OXYD is a manifestation of my love affair with motorcycles. I've been riding, repairing and tinkering with with motorcycles nearly all my life. It was inevitable that I'd eventually come to designing and building my own bikes.

I build purely out of love of the craft, and for the machines. I'm inspired by the expertise and quality of builds I see from builders all over the world, and integrate bits and pieces of what I learn into each one of my builds. I see motorcycles of all forms as works of art, combining elements of sculpture, craft and engineering - an extension of my formal education in architecture & engineering. While I have focused on the cafe racer style, I'm not committed to a particular brand, style, or genre of bike. I look for opportunities to exploit the natural details of a bike, re-envisioning it from the ground up.

My style of working is highly collaborative and I frequently seek out inspirational craftspeople whose work offers me an opportunity to learn, experiment, and take risks. Each of my builds is a simple expression of my own aesthetic preferences and design sensibilities...I just build what I like.

OXYD Cycles (pronounced oxide) is an independent, custom motorcycle shop based in Seattle, Washington and founded in 2017. I have the good fortune to be based in Industry Space Seattle, part of a talented community of fabricators, artisans, and craftspeople.
